How to Grow Sprouts | Raising Chickens | Bokashi Fermentation with Ellee Spier
About Ellee: Ellee Spier, who resides in Bloomington, IN, has a degree in biology, with a focus in human and natural ecology, from Emory University. In 2017-2019, she designed, installed, and managed multiple garden and landscaping projects at Childs Elementary School, including a rain garden, a vermicomposting system, a rainwater collection system, a garden club, a seed lab, and a garden-to-classroom cooking experience. In 2018, she spent time at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center in CA learning to design/integrate gardening into curricula. In 2019, she received Permaculture Certification. In 2022-2023 completed orchard tree management coursework and currently she is taking classes in homegrown garden amendments.
For the past two years, she has focused on becoming a local expert in residential bokashi fermentation of food waste in an effort to find a grassroot’s solution to Monroe County’s solid waste challenges. She also teaches about the nutritional density of food at her neighborhood farmstand. Through her non-profit, she mentors high school and college students who want hands-on experience with urban agriculture and sustainable living projects. She is also working with local schools on urban school garden design.

He manages a garden blog, Sustainable in Suburbia, and offers educational courses on organic gardening, permaculture, foraging, and sustainable living.
